Phishing Alert

If you have any questions about the legitimacy of an e-mail appearing to come from Alandale, please contact your agent or call our office to confirm its legitimacy before opening.

Email Phishing attacks have recently been on the rise. The purpose of these attacks is to trick an email recipient into taking an action so that the recipient’s system can be compromised. Alandale has seen an increase of this both within our company and with some of our clients and partners. We wanted to raise awareness among our community of these types of e-mail attacks.
Although phishing emails can have various motives, some of the most common actions that Phishing email senders want you to take are:

  • Sharing sensitive information, such as passwords, personal information, etc. that will allow the sender unauthorized access to systems and data.
  • Opening an attachment that contains malicious code and allow the sender access to your system, login credentials (usernames, passwords) and your data.
  • Following a Web link that will execute malicious code and allow the sender access to your system, login credentials (usernames, passwords) and your sensitive data.
Email Best Practices to Avoid Getting Hooked by an Email Phishing Scam
  • Be cautious of any unsolicited emails, or emails that raise suspicion by having misspellings, bad grammar and punctuation etc.
  • Don’t click on links to a web site or attachments in unsolicited emails.
  • Avoid filling out forms in email messages that ask for personal information or passwords.
  • Always compare the link in the email to the link that you are directed to by hovering your cursor over it.
Email – Be Cautious of what you open and what information you share
  • The IRS will not contact you via email for past due taxes or other matters
  • A Crown Prince from a foreign land will most likely not share his family riches with you if you transfer money into his bank account

Though these are some of the more extreme examples, we feel it is very important to share this information with you and encourage caution when receiving suspicious e-mails.

If you have any questions about the legitimacy of an e-mail appearing to come from Alandale, please contact your agent or call our office to confirm its legitimacy before opening.
