Motorcycle Safety Tips for Heavy Traffic

June 14, 2017

Do you have motorcycle insurance in California? When you run into bumper-to-bumper traffic, here are a few things to keep in mind:

•    A good way to anticipate another driver’s behavior is to watch their head. Many drivers don’t switch lanes or turn without first looking behind to ensure the way is clear.

•    You should be ready to brake at all times. Keeping your toes on the brake pedal could help save your life.

•    Your protective riding gear should be brightly colored to increase visibility. Riding with your lights on – even in the daytime- can also make you and your motorcycle more visible.

•    Whenever possible, try making yourself known. Many drivers don’t see a motorcyclist until it’s too late… rev your engine, flash your lights or honk if you think someone may not see you.

•    When traffic starts to slow ahead, it may be a smart idea to ride to one side. This could limit the chance of you being hit should the car behind you fail to stop.

Riding a motorcycle is often considered to be more unsafe than driving a vehicle.  With this in mind, wise riders ensure their motorcycle insurance is able to cover the total cost of a wreck, including any injuries that may be sustained.
