Life Changes To Discuss With Your Insurance Agent
“We’re getting married!” You tell your friends, family, neighbors, maybe even the people you don’t like… but have you told your insurance agent? Involving your insurance agent in life’s major moments (and even the ones that you may consider minor) can help ensure that you are always covered appropriately for the situation at hand. Here are some examples of changes that we would love to know about:
Examples of Temporary Changes
- Friend or family member comes to stay with you
- Your home is under construction or renovation
- You are moving
- Property vacancy or change in property occupation
Most temporary changes won’t affect your insurance policy, but it’s best to talk to your agent to be sure. As a general rule, if any “temporary” change lasts longer than 30 days, it’s time to talk to your agent.
Examples of Permanent Changes
- New job, change in commute status or possible business use of your vehicle
- Acquiring a new vehicle, toy or property
- Change in marital status
- A birth or death in the family
Any permanent changes in your life or situation should be discussed with your agent as soon as possible. These types of changes usually mean that your coverage needs to be changed or in some cases, re-issued.
A change in circumstance doesn’t always mean paying for more coverage. Getting married, a new job title and other changes can actually result in new or increased discounts. Many companies allow us to change and tailor your coverage as we go, so in most cases your agent will be able to provide multiple options that can fit your new needs.
Make sure you remember us the next time your life changes. Your agent can give you the right advice and recommend any needed enhancements or reductions to your coverage… or just share in the excitement with you! Contact your agent at (562) 493-3521! After all, that’s what we’re here for.
