Is a big earthquake coming?
On Wednesday afternoon the OC Sheriff’s Dept shared the following on their facebook page :
“Have you heard of an earthquake swarm? It’s an event where a small area experiences many earthquakes in a short period of time. Due to a swarm of earthquakes near the Salton Sea in the Imperial/Coachella valley area, seismologists from the California Office of Emergency Services with the California Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council have issued an Earthquake Advisory for Southern California. This means there is a slightly increased chance of an earthquake larger than a 4.3 magnitude occurring along the San Andreas fault within the next week, which could affect Orange County.
We share this not to scare you, but to remind you that earthquake preparedness is important. Earthquakes can occur at any time without any warning. The best thing to do is be prepared. In the event of an earthquake, remember to do the following…
• Drop, cover and hold on
• If driving pull to side of road and stop until shaking stops.
• Do not stop or take cover under over passes or bridges
• If you smell gas, evacuate the area
• Do not handle or drive over downed power lines”
