Should we keep daylight savings?

Daylight savings began in the 20th century to conserve electricity. The idea was the more daylight there is the less people will use energy from electricity for lighting. Sports, retail and other activities that require light would not need to use electricity if the sun was still out and thereby save money.
On paper its seems like a very good idea to conserve energy through daylight savings. But there has been criticism lately about whether or not the benefits outweigh the costs.
